Foodlums Minutes 4-11-08

Compost is coming in on Mon. morning! Bagging is being organized by me (Briana).

Earth Day
-rootbeer (1/2 barrel), juice, water (radio flier wagon and the shopping cart as tranportation), and jolly good (possibly in cans).
-plans to plant the council oak have gone... shady. the tree ceremony on the wed. after earth day may turn into just planting a tree for earth day instead of the official council oak.

Progressive Film Fest.
-Black Gold Mon. April 21 8pm Hibbard 100
-The Price of Sugar Thur. April 24 8pm Hibbard 100
-King Corn Fri. April 25 8pm Hibbard 100
-we should get some fliers circulating.... Kerri?

Garden Stuff
-the garden supply drive is still in the starting-up phase
-grow light option. we have 2 that have come out of the woodwork
-seductively more environmentally friendly alternative to grow lights-- making a cold frame/ hot box/ hot house with straw bales for walls for insulation and a sheet of clear plastic on top so we could just start a lot of the seeds in the garden
-contact Jarel if you'd be game for starting some seeds in your windows at home. just think of all the fun you can have with your sprouting seeds singing to them, reading them books, telling them about your day. he will assign you a seed. Ane suggests Seed Folks for story time with your seeds.
-collect your egg shells (pereferably broken into perfect halves) and egg cartons so we can use them to start seeds in and can just stick them in the ground with the eggshells and all. Dr. Hupy points out that this way, the eggshells will conveniently help to bring the pH of the soil closer to 7! BINGO
-another plan for seed-starting containers is teh coir-based pot which is made of coconut hair (more sustainable than the peat-based pot). Jane will buy a butt load of them using the weathered $5 bill that was found in the garden supply pile a few weeks ago.
-set aside Sun. April 20th... for a GARDEN HOLIDAY. we will be doing work in the garden and most importantly, building hot boxes/ hot houses/ cold frames (whatever you like to call them)

It's time for a much-needed foodlums Hoobob. the hoobob will occur on the weekend of the earthday celebration on saturday evening. location has yet to be determined.

Fry bread sale for NASA (native american student association) on thur. 11-2 in front of the council fire room. delicious!
