Foodlums Minutes 3-28-08
Here's what we talked about at the meeting yesterday.

People from Campus Kitchens came to talk to us and sent around a sheet for people who were interested in getting updates. you can e-mail Claire Couillard at Couillcd@uwec.edu with more questions or learn more about the project at www.campuskitchens.org

Local foods week
-Chalk in your classrooms to get the word out about the week.
-There was a debate over whether or not we should have the banana dog as a vegetarian option. Banana dog supporters got the upper hand so we will be having fairtrade Ecuadorian banana dogs with local toppings such as sorghum syrup, honey, and peanut butter.
-Chili for the hotdog sale will be made after Ken Meter speaks on Wed. night ( around 9:00)  at Zac's house 1316 Jefferson Ct. Eau Claire, WI 54703. We're going to be relying on people's donations of the main ingredients for the chili, so please bring kidney beans, refried beans, celery, tomatoes, spices, onions, or any other tired produce that you think would work in a vegetarian chili.
-We are going to buy an animal with Heifer International with a portion of our earnings from the hot dog sale so start thinking about your favorite livestock.

Earth Day
-Alchemy Organica, Hay Market Grill, and The Goat are on board for earth day vendors.
-Check out the foodlums website for other fun things going on with earth day fun, including the hiking/ biking/ canoeing trail to the pheonix park celebration and a trash pickup.
-Compost and potting soil that we will be selling should be coming in before earth day so people power will be needed to shovel it all into bags.

Farmers market starts the first weekend in may. Hope everyone's craving asparagus!

Chair Person Wiley report
- A new oak tree is going to be planted symbolizing the tree of excellence

Garden
- Since we don't have access to the green house this year, the plan is to have individual members start plants in their places of residence providing they have enough light.
- Cold frames will be needed to get plants started in the garden. We can use our funds to invest in cold frame materials.
- We're starting to toss around ideas for what we all really want in the garden. Beans such as pintos and lentils were suggested, along with herbs.

The silent film mentioned at a previous meeting is starting to be made. The topic is students healthy eating in the area. Talk to the film maker Laura Sukowatey sukowalm@uwec.edu for more info.
